How this calculator works
Paver projects are all about getting the count right before you place your order — running short mid-project often means waiting on a reorder from a specific batch, and paver color can vary slightly between production runs.
This calculator divides your total project area by the area of a single paver to get a base count, then adds your waste percentage to cover cuts along borders, curves and edges. Straight rectangular layouts typically need less waste (5-10%), while curved patios, herringbone patterns or areas with many borders can need 10-15% or more.
Don't forget to account for paver spacing (polymeric sand joints are usually thin, around 1/8 in, and have minimal effect on the count) and edge restraints, which are sold separately from the pavers themselves.
Example: A 12 ft × 12 ft patio (144 sq ft) using 12 in × 12 in pavers needs 144 pavers, or 159 pavers with a 10% waste allowance.
